Veterinary Behavior Consults
Valli Parthasarathy, PhD, DVM offers behavior consults for dogs and cats, combining her knowledge of animal behavior and veterinary medicine. As a veterinarian and animal behaviorist Dr. Valli is qualified to...
- Identify physical issues that may be contributing to or causing behavioral issues, and work cooperatively with your regular veterinarian to address them
- Diagnose reasons for behavior problems based on scientific knowledge of animal behavior
- Develop management and behavior modification plans that are practical and tailored to you and your pet
- Prescribe medication or other medical-based modalities to help patients, as determined on a case-by-case basis
What to Do Before a Consult
It is important for Dr. Valli to get as much information as possible before the consultation. This is to help give her a more though idea of your pets' life, and also allows her to spend the majority of the time going over the diagnosis and treatment plan for your pet.
Please download and fill out the appropriate Behavior History Form below. You can e-mail, fax or mail the form back to us so that we receive it no later than 2 business days prior to your consultation.
- Dog Behavior History Form (MS Word Format)
- Cat Behavior History Form (MS Word Format)
What to Expect During a Consult
Dr. Valli usually holds the initial consultation at the clients' house. She frequently does follow-up consults at other locations depending on the pets' problem behaviors and the client's needs.
When she arrives at your home, Dr. Valli will spend time getting to know you, your pet and to clarify any questions she may have from the Behavior History Form that you filled out prior to the consult. In the meantime, she will observe your pets' behavior. During your consult, Dr. Valli will:
- Discuss the diagnoses and treatment options with you
- Demonstrate the behavior modification techniques best suited to your pet and make it practical for you to follow-through with them. The techniques are progressive, compassionate, and minimally invasive
- Discuss follow-up recommendations based on you and your pet's needs
After the consultation, Dr. Valli will send you a formal write-up of the findings of the consultation and send a copy to your regular veterinarian as well to keep them updated and part of your pet's behavioral health team. Follow-up consults with one of our Certified Pet Dog Trainers are also possible, depending on the case.
The initial consultation includes 3 months of phone and e-mail follow-up. If a new behavioral situation arises, Dr. Valli determines that a medication change may be in order but has questions about your pet's behavior, or you are unsure as to how to implement treatment, she is available for follow-up visits.
