Veterinary Behavior Telemedicine in Portland, OR

Synergy Veterinary Behavior offers veterinary behavior telemedicine services that help veterinarians across the United States support dogs and cats with behavioral concerns when an in-person visit to our Portland, OR animal hospital is not practical. Our board-certified veterinary behaviorist, Dr. Valli Parthasarathy, can work directly with your client or consult with you regarding behavioral concerns, treatment planning, diagnostic considerations, and medication options.

We offer several levels of support depending on the patient's needs, from a full telemedicine Behavior Health Assessment to focused vet-to-vet consultations.

Behavior Health Assessment via Telemedicine

If you have a client who lives outside our local area or cannot travel to Synergy Veterinary Behavior, our telemedicine Behavior Health Assessment allows Dr. Valli to consult directly with the pet owner about their dog or cat's behavioral concerns.

Because the appointment takes place remotely, Synergy does not establish the veterinarian-client-patient relationship needed to prescribe directly. Instead, Dr. Valli sends any specific diagnostic or medication recommendations to the referring veterinarian, who remains responsible for the patient's medical care and follow-up.

The referring veterinarian does not need to attend the telemedicine appointment.

Cost: $545
Rechecks within one year of the initial consultation: $295
Second Pet Fee: $445 when the second pet has behavior concerns related to the primary patient
Appointment Length: 60 minutes for one pet; 90–120 minutes for two pets

How Does the Veterinary Behavior Telemedicine Process Work?

To begin, the client must complete our Veterinary Behavior History Form.

Once the form is submitted, our team will contact the client directly to arrange the consultation and collect payment.

During the telemedicine appointment, Dr. Valli evaluates the patient's behavior, environment, history, and other factors that may contribute to the behavioral concern.

What Does the Client Receive?

The telemedicine Behavior Health Assessment includes:

  • A visual assessment of the pet's general health and movement
  • Evaluation of the pet's behavior and home environment
  • A prioritized list of behavioral concerns and possible risk factors
  • Management recommendations designed to reduce unwanted behavior and improve safety when appropriate
  • Behavior modification recommendations
  • Discussion of how medical conditions may influence behavior when relevant
  • General education about how behavioral medications may support treatment when appropriate

What Does the Referring Veterinarian Receive?

Following the assessment, the referring veterinarian will receive any specific recommendations Dr. Valli makes regarding:

  • Behavioral medications and dosing
  • Diagnostic testing
  • Medical factors that may warrant additional investigation
  • Other considerations related to the patient's behavior treatment plan

This option works best when the referring veterinarian is comfortable overseeing recommended medical care and providing ongoing follow-up.

Additional Behavior Progress Evaluations can be scheduled when updated recommendations are needed. Email communication between Dr. Valli and the referring veterinarian is included at no additional cost for six months following the appointment.

Vet-to-Vet Behavior Support

Sometimes you may not need a full patient telemedicine assessment. Synergy also offers direct consultation options for veterinarians who want input from a board-certified veterinary behaviorist regarding a specific case.

Vet-to-Vet Call

Vet-to-Vet Consultation

A Vet-to-Vet Consultation provides more time for an in-depth discussion of a patient's behavioral concerns.

Before the consultation, Dr. Valli reviews the patient's behavioral and medical history. The scheduled phone or Zoom consultation can then focus on the case in greater detail, including treatment considerations, behavior management, and medication options when relevant.

Afterward, the veterinarian receives an emailed summary of the discussion.

The referring veterinarian or clinic may determine whether to charge the client separately for this consultation.

Cost: $250, billed to the veterinarian or veterinary clinic
Appointment Length: 20–30 minutes

How Do I Schedule a Vet-to-Vet Consultation?

Before scheduling, please ask the client to complete the Vet-to-Vet Behavior History Form.

After the form is submitted, our team will contact the veterinarian or veterinary clinic to schedule the consultation and collect prepayment.
